2019 Summer conference

Swansea University Bay Campus

Innovative Partnerships
A Strategic Imperative

Incorporating the 2019 CUBO Awards on 4 July 2019

Partnerships are the future was a resounding message from our last conference. This summer, we gather at Swansea University’s beachfront Bay Campus to explore innovative partnerships as a strategic imperative in the current university landscape, with keynotes from the university and business worlds and best practice case studies from CUBO members.

Learn from experts, learn from national and international colleagues, build and strengthen your professional network and find solutions to common issues in commercial and campus services #CUBOsummerconf2019.

Keynote Speakers

Andrew Rhodes, Registrar of Swansea University, will open the conference. Heading up operational and support services at Swansea and previously Director-General Operations at the Department for Work and Pensions, Andrew understands the business challenges of higher education and the importance of partnerships in the public sector better than most.

Sahar Hashemi OBE co-founder of Coffee Republic, is an internationally recognised thought leader on innovation and entrepreneurship - essential ingredients in successful business partnerships.

Professor Charles Spence is Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford and consults extensively on consumer neuroscience and sensory marketing to various global brands.

Richard Noble OBE is Project Director of The Bloodhound Project. His talk on partnerships in the world of land speed records will not only entertain but tackle the challenge of raising investment for new projects.

Rachael Flanagan is one of Wales' leading business people. She started Mrs Bucket Cleaning Services when she was just 18 years old, developing it into a multi-million-pound business employing over 300 staff throughout Wales and the West.

Samantha Murray, London 2012 Olympic Silver Medallist and 2014 World Champion in the Modern Pentathlon, studied Politics at The University of Bath. She will talk about winning partnerships: when national governing bodies, coaches, mentors, teachers, and universities work together to support personal and team success.

Social Night, Campus Tour, International Networking and more...

Swansea University are organising a fabulous, fun social night at the National Waterfront Museum where you can unwind and enjoy a summer's evening networking with HE business colleagues. There are two chances to take a tour of the impressive Bay Campus facilities too, and the opportunity to meet international delegates taking part in our annual study tour and from our partner associations Acuho-i and Class of 2020.

A shuttle service from the station, on-site accommodation, a late-night bar, catering and entertainment from the Swansea University team complete an exciting programme, after which you may just want to stay on and explore this beautiful part of Britain!

"We all felt the content met our expectations of being challenging, thought-provoking and useful - focusing on supporting leaders in commercial and campus services in meeting the challenge of being agile and responsive in uncertain times. There were lots of opportunities to network and informally share ideas which is really important."
