CUBO RA Awards: Meet the Judges!

CUBO is delighted to announce that the judges for the inaugural RA Awards are:

Jan Capper

Chair, Jan Capper, CUBO 

Jan Capper has over 20 years’ experience at the helm of associations in the education sector. Before joining CUBO in 2017, Jan was executive director of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC). Working with successive executive boards, Jan oversaw the development of IALC from its dynamic, volunteer-led origins into an award-winning association in language study abroad.

Jan graduated in modern languages and initially pursued a career in tourism, working for American Express and other large-scale tour operators. She then spent several in senior marketing roles in international education in the UK and Germany before joining IALC.She has served as co-convenor of the Global Alliance of Education and Language Associations (GAELA), was a judge on the inagural PIEoneer Awards in 2017, and is an honorary member of the Association of Language Travel Organisations (ALTO).

 

Jorick Beijer

Jorick Beijer, Class of 2020

Jorick Beijer is the Director of The Class of 2020, Europe’s leading think tank on student living, working and learning. Jorick has a comprehensive and international approach to urbanism acquired through his studies in urban design and planning obtained in between Delft, Los Angeles and Buenos Aires. As an urban strategist, Jorick has experience in working on forward thinking projects for governments, real estate investors and universities, bringing together complex multi-stakeholder teams. Alongside his position as Director at the Class, Jorick is an active teacher at TU Delft and a passionate speaker on urban development, learning and public-private innovation.

Colin Marshall

Colin Marshall, Campus Life

Colin has been with Federation University Australia since 2006 and leads the Campus Life team within the division of Student Support and Services. His role encompasses responsibility for student residences and a range of commercial services including student residences; hospitality operations, encompassing retail food, residential function and conference services; UniSports recreational facilities and the Universities children’s centres. 

Colin served for a number of years on the Australasian Association College University Housing Officers (AACUHO) Committee as ordinary member, Vice President and President (2007 – 2013). In 2013, Colin was appointed to the Executive Board of the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I) as Globalisation Director and in that role served as the primary advisor on global student housing issues and strategy. He continues to be one of the association's lead ambassadors to student housing professionals outside of the United States, promoting relationships and knowledge transfer activities between housing professionals in different countries.

Von Stange

Von Stange, University of Iowa/ACUHO-I

Dr. Von Stange serves as Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Senior Director of University Housing & Dining at the University of Iowa.  In addition, Dr. Stange is an adjunct assistant professor in the University of Iowa’s Graduate Programs in Higher Education and Student Affairs.  Von has worked at four higher education institutions during his professional career. He has spent his last 14 years at the University of Iowa in Housing and Dining.

In a volunteer capacity, Von served as Editor of the Journal of College and University Student Housing, which is the journal of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I).  He currently serves on the ACUHO-I Executive Board as Vice President after serving the past three years as their Knowledge Enhancement Director.  Von holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota, a Master’s degree from Texas Tech University and an Ed.D. from the University of South Dakota.
