CUBO Summer Conference 2017

Punch Above Your Weight

Tuesday 27th, June - Thursday 29th, June

Conference Home

This year’s CUBO conference will be held at the University of Kent, in the historic city of Canterbury.

Our theme is “Punch above your weight."  Against a backdrop in higher education where teaching and research income is becoming steadily harder to grow, we in the commercial sector need to demonstrate leadership and rise to the challenge. There will be plenty of opportunities to network with CUBO members who typically contribute 6% of the income of UK universities, some £1.95B for 2014/2015, an increase of 31% over the last 5 years.

The conference will be hosted by Sandra Matthews-Marsh MBE, Chief Executive of Visit Kent and we are honoured to present the following keynote speakers:

  • Gavin Esler, Journalist, Broadcaster, Author and Chancellor of the University of Kent.
  • Dame Julia Goodfellow, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kent, Chair of the British Science Association and President of Universities UK.
  • Barry McGuigan MBE, ex British, Commonwealth, European and world boxing champion, President of the Professional Boxing Association, CEO and founder of Cyclone Promotions.
  • The Reverend Richard Coles, Broadcaster, musician, journalist.

These contributions will surround a wide range of elective sessions with members talking to members about topical issues, experiences and achievements both within our portfolio and the HE sector more widely, tipping the scales and punching above their weight.

We have devised a social programme which promises to offer some activities which have never made it to a CUBO conference before and since we have a first class arts centre at the heart of our campus we promise to entertain you!

Who can attend: Conference registrations will be accepted from registered members of CUBO, and, for 2017 only, non-members who are currently eligible for membership.
